The ConnecT1D GetFit group was founded in 2014 on the premise that no individual with Type 1 Diabetes should be afraid to engage in regular activity or exercise due to inexperience or concerns with low/high blood sugar effects. The group, which drew from local T1D athletes for leadership, created a network of approximately 24 athletes of all ability levels. The group meets bi-weekly, and through a partnership with the JDRF, created a training program that helps runners compete in the 2014 JDRF Beat the Bridge race.
This group is for T1Ds of all ability levels and is a regular opportunity to get together to walk around Green Lake, go kayaking, bicycling, do light training for 5K and 10K races, etc. Many participants find a T1D training buddy through GetFit that is equal to their athletic level and focused on a similar event or activity.
